Hatians Turn to God for Help

It is all over my paper- Hatians, rattled by the recent quake, are assembling in anything standing that remotely resembles a church. They are thanking their god for saving their lives and protecting the survivors.
Again, a searing WTF? Clearly their god wanted hundreds of thousands dead and children orphaned. Clearly their god wanted people to suffer in pain and sustain lifelong injuries.
I guess they are trying to keep on his good side.
To me, I don't get it. The earthquake was not magic or supernatural. It was a physical shifting of the earth's plates. The devastation was caused by horrendous building strategies in a crowded town living in absolute poverty. This was not an act of gods or devils, it was an act of the earth and a tragedy beyond measure.
These people need to get out of the church and only get on their knees if it is to move rocks to rescue a survivor pinned in rubble with time running out. In this way their god is killing more people indirectly, because as they waste time in prayer people are dying that need their help.
It is an absolute tragedy, but a natural and predictable one. The best thing for the Hatian people would be to abandon belief in an invisible man that is not doing anything to help, and focus on getting his work done themselves.
